CHARACTER NAME: Alvin (Alfred Vint Svent)

PERSONALITY: Alvin chooses to present himself as a Mercenary for hire, seeking out mutually beneficial relationships, motivated by earning capacity. While that's not to say he doesn't do things for people without prompting, he will generally show some motive for doing so, whether it's a future business opportunity or something they can do for him in return.

Alvin is highly capable in a number of areas. Most notably is-- he's strong, capable with not one but two different types of weapons, which he proudly wields at the same time. But he's also well-informed. While he's not book smart so to speak, he has a great deal of life experience and good common sense. On subjects like travel, battle strategy and survival he's good to have around.

He can even be charming when he wants to be. He likes talking to people and he's also very good at it. Because he's very social, he's generally very easy to talk to. At the same time, he's very aware of his worth in the above areas and is very straight-forward about it. So while he's not conceited-- he can come off as cocky at times. He also has a habit of draping his arm over people's shoulders in a friendly yet personally invasive way since there's never really any warning. He also likes to give off a flirtatious vibe, although ironically he doesn't get as close to the girls and seems to be all talk.

But by far one of his favorite things to do is tease others. He's got a playful attitude which usually comes out in the form of fooling around in an almost childish fashion (sometimes to annoy people as much as it is for his own entertainment) or taking the opportunity to joke around and tease the rest of the party.

Certain parts of his act however, are not exactly as they seem. Innocent as he likes to act, Alvin has a very calculated, sneaky side to him. On numerous occasions he hides things from the rest of the party at best and at worst-- betrays them, acting in his own favor. Although he was never happy about using or betraying the party, he still does it on multiple occasions. In situations where he feels like something needs to be done, he removes himself from his personal feelings.

Although he's not proud of it, he's a skillful liar who has a great poker face when questioned. He's quick and clever with excuses when he has to be.

But for as friendly and social as he comes across, he doesn't like talking about himself and isn't good at delving into his personal feelings. He's the type that likes sweeping them under the rug like not looking at it makes it go away. Which is as unhealthy as it sounds-- and it comes back to bite him in the butt more than once.

But he also wants to grow. Having done everything he did and still finding acceptance among the group, Alvin found something really precious-- a place where he could belong. Although he doesn't particularly feel worthy of it or the people that call themselves his friends, he found that he has a reason to better himself and genuinely wants to do it even though he knows that won't be easy.

Because of that revelation, the people he traveled with all have a very special place in his heart. He doesn't trust or open his heart up to people easily, but the few that have earned that are people he would do everything in his power for. And as he gets to know people his softer side does show, along with his protective tendencies.

Alvin uses two weapons in battle-- a gun in one hand and a broadsword in the other. His combat style is complex, using both weapons to compliment each other. His greatest asset is his strength, while his speed is lower.
- Survival Skills
He's used to traveling near constantly and is in peak physical condition. Having seen so much of the world he can adapt to almost all terrain.
- Artes
Special skills in Tales of Xillia are known as "artes". They are physical moves that are stronger and more complex than normal attacks. While he himself is not capable of using spirit artes or the magical types of attacks, his gun is powered in that way and that's what allows it to shoot.
- Charge
His character specific skill-set in Tales of Xillia is called Charge. The charge of energy is built up in his weapons and when released, his artes become stronger during that limited time.
- Linking
In Tales of Xillia there is a system for two characters to link and gain certain special boosts and abilities from it. Alvin's support skill while linked is "Breaker", which allows him to break the guard of a defending enemy for his partner.
